Exposure into China’s expanding supply chains and consumer markets

The UK’s entrepreneurs, innovators, manufacturers, digital solution providers and industrial and service designers are recognised in China as world leaders whose products and services are attractive and popular in Chinese markets. The UK’s design-led reputation has been established since the early 2000’s by trailblazer brands such as Burberry, Rolls Royce and Dyson who sell their products through 200 stores in 45 cities.

The Chinese appetite for innovative products and services is now being capitalised on by the UK’s design-led small and mid-sized enterprises influenced by China’s extraordinary growth potential:

  1. Expanding markets — a population of 1.2bn and an annual growth rate above 6%
  2. Spending power — Chinese middle class swelling to 630 million people
  3. Export value — UK China exports have tripled since 2008 to £22.3bn in 2019
  4. Digital shopping — 58% or 830 million Chinese had internet access in 2018
  5. Future customers — 100,000 Chinese students study in the UK — more than from the EU 6. Growing investment — China-UK investment was £88.4bn and UK-China £103.1bn in 2017
